Understanding the Foundation of the Academy

These are the foundational facts about the structure of Bio-Med Science Academy and how the school operates.

The Academy …

…is open to any Ohio high school student entering their freshman year.

…will welcome a new class of ninth-grade students each fall to establish a full high school enrollment of 9-12 graders in 2015. The Academy will eventually have a class size of 100 students per grade.

… is located on the campus of Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio.

… is part of the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN), an organization committed to helping the state of Ohio inspire and train the next generation of science and technology leaders.

… is a public high school staffed by highly qualified certified teachers and is overseen by its governing board. There is no charge to attend. However, there are select course and technology consumable fees. Students are required to follow our dress code:

  • One Bio-Med Science Academy embroidered polo shirt
  • Additional plain, solid-color polo shirts (blue, green, white, gray or yellow)
  • Solid-color pants (blue, black, or khaki)
  • Students may dress in business casual on internship day

… features a 191-day, year-round class schedule divided into trimesters with an additional five week accelerated term. Regular school hours are:

8:30AM to 3:15PM – Monday through Friday
3:15PM to 4:00PM – Tutor/remediation sessions

… does not currently offer dedicated school transportation. Students may work with their local districts or for those that live in Portage County, you may utilize the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) at a special student rate.  More information is available from the school office.
