Meet Bio-Med Science Academy

  /    /  Meet Bio-Med Science Academy

Meet Bio-Med Science Academy. Hi there!

Meet your teachers.

Many of our teachers had experience outside of education before pursuing their teaching certification. In addition, Bio-Med engages an extensive list of partners from healthcare, business and industry that come in to assist with presentations and events. As a result, Bio-Med students are exposed to career options and opportunities early and often.

Teachers at Bio-Med have a lot of independence and autonomy in how subject content is presented and applied. It can lead to some innovative ways of learning that can look different than the methods that had been developed and repeated over generations of traditional schooling. Often projects involve multiple disciplines.

Teachers are given the freedom to be creative and come up with ways of getting students engaged. Events and activities frequently go across both classes and grade levels. What’s more, there’s a lot of back-and-forth between the student and the teacher. The teacher is not the “answer key” that walks around the room. Instead, the teacher says, “let’s investigate this together. How can we begin to do that?”

Meet your fellow students.

You don’t have to be a science “techie” to benefit from a STEM-based approach to learning. We have many students who are interested in art or theatre or the trades.

STEM-based education requires a breadth of humanities and liberal arts skills. There is a lot of writing that’s required in engineering. Chemistry and Biology students do a lot of reading in scientific journals. The ability to communicate effectively is valued in any discipline. At Bio-Med our students often work cross-class on projects and assignments – combining science and art… pairing technology with history.

Please check out our various twitter feeds. The most current ones are on our home page. You can also follow us on Twitter @biomedacademy. You’ll see that your fellow students come from different backgrounds. They have different interests. And now, you are with them in a journey of learning in a different kind of school. Different is good.

Become a part of a community.

At Bio-Med, you will become part of a learning concept that is relatively new, compared to traditional education. That, by itself, makes you pioneers and explorers. But more, you are actually contributing to Bio-Med’s approach to teaching and learning. You are in community with your teachers and your feedback is heard and valued.

Because everyone – teachers and students, together – is involved in learning and innovating, it creates an environment where it’s safe to take risks. Everyone learns together. Everyone celebrates each other’s success.

We believe this helps eliminate some of the cliques and needless competition found in many traditional schools and helps us create a community where all students feel safe and appreciated as themselves.

How to checkout Bio-Med Science Academy for yourself.

Unfortunately, we do not offer “shadow days” for students to spend a day with a Bio-Med class. There are two reasons for this. First, we are at full enrollment and simply do not have the capacity to have additional students in classes. And, each day at Bio-Med is different – there is no such thing as a “typical” day at Bio-Med Science Academy.

We do offer an active schedule of public events, often involving student presentations. Prospective students and their parents are always welcome to attend, which gives you a chance to check out our campuses.

We also schedule Information Sessions for prospective students entering grades k-10. Upcoming session information will be posted on our website.

Public Events and Information Session dates and links are listed on our Events page.

We look forward to meeting you!
