Bio-Med Science Academy is a tuition-free public STEM+M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) academy that is open to any student in Ohio, but was developed to serve students primarily from rural communities in Portage County and other surrounding counties. The Academy offers an innovative and progressive learning environment that cultivates academic excellence and rigor in the STEM+M disciplines while nurturing creativity, inventiveness and community in its students.

A year-round school, the Academy’s course themes are developed based on current trends in science and medicine as well as the research and education being conducted at Northeast Ohio Medical University. The Academy also develops educational experiences around community health and the environment in both urban and rural communities.

The school is developing and implementing a unique virtual classroom environment (VLX) to provide subject delivery and academic support, where professionals, teachers and students from anywhere in the world can collaborate with Academy teachers and students on joint projects during or after the school day throughout the year.

The Academy will be accepting applications from incoming ninth-grade students beginning in January 2013. Up to 100 students will be accepted into the fall 2013 ninth-grade class.
