Bio-Med Students Take Third Place in 29th Annual ASCE Model Bridge Competition

Congratulations go out to Bio-Med Science Academy Students Emmy Baldwin and Jessica White for taking third place in The University of Akron Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineer’s 29th Annual High School Model Bridge Competition.

The annual competition features more than 25 teams of high school students from Medina, Portage, Stark and Summit counties who compete to build the most efficient model bridge using balsa wood that was provided one month prior to the competition.  The efficiency is defined as maximum weight supported by the bridge per the weight of the bridge – the lightest and strongest bridge wins.  The competition affords students an educational opportunity to learn about the stresses that go through a bridge during realistic loading.
