HOSA Competition Team

HOSA is an organization geared towards students interested in a health profession. We strive to expose our members to career opportunities in the health fields, as well as give them opportunities to compete in a wide range of events related to those fields. Examples include phlebotomy, mental health, first aid, etc.
FFA Competition Team
Advisors: Mrs. Hisrich, Mrs. Gerez, and Ms. Shaheen
Career tech service organization for students interested in exploring agriculture and/or the environment. Members participate in one or more of the following: outdoor activities such as composting and gardening, cooking, competitions, running camp for younger students, Camp Muskingum, leadership events like National Conference and/or Ohio Youth Institute.
BPA Competition Team

Business Professionals of America is a career and technical student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration and other related career fields. Students compete in industry and work based competitions to help them prepare their career and leadership skills.

SkillsUSA is a student-led organization who partners education and industry together to help create a skilled workforce for the future of our nation.Our mission is accomplished through the SkillsUSA Framework of Personal Skills, Workplace Skills and Technical Skills Grounded in Academics, which is integrated into classroom curriculum.
Esports

The Esports team exists to provide students the opportunity to participate competitively in a variety of video games, develop healthy habits and mindsets around gaming, foster teamwork and communication skills through competition, and connect them with collegiate and career opportunities in Esports.
Student Council

Student Council provides leadership opportunities for students to give back to the school community, plan events such as homecoming, prom, spirit weeks, etc. engage in volunteer opportunities, and continue providing a positive school environment for students and staff.
The HIVE
Advisor: Mr. McDonald
The Hive is an online publication produced entirely by students and not subject to prior content review. The Hive provides students with the opportunity to learn journalism techniques and principles, and to learn about the rights and responsibilities of public expression in our democratic society. Student journalists determine the content of material published in The Hive and are expected to establish and enforce standards for publication that are consistent with professional journalism.
CyberPatriots
Advisor: Mrs. Hill
At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which puts teams of middle and high school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services.
National Honor Society
Advisor: Ms. Long
Nationally recognized organization focused on Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. The chapter carefully selects members based on these criteria and empowers them to become leaders within their school.
Portage Music Program
Students will be exposed to a variety of music offerings throughout the school year that will empower them to explore the fine arts.
Quiz Bowl
Advisors: Ms. Long
Quiz bowl is a competitive club that participates in matches in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more.
Relay for Life
Advisor:
The goal of our Relay for Life club is to support the American Cancer Society in their fight against cancer. Students work to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society and complete service projects to benefit local Cancer Centers. Students in grades 9 – 12 are welcome to join.
Robotics Club
Advisor: Ms. Fleming
Our robotics club provides students with an opportunity to explore and engage in various aspects of robotics, engineering, and technology. Students will develop their skills, knowledge, and passion for robotics while fostering teamwork and creativity. Students are also required to participate in (Advisor-led) structured standards based robotic workshops as part of the club.
Drama Club
Advisors: Ms. Welton and Mr. Holtz
Our Drama Club allows students to express themselves through improv games. For students to grow their self confidence and communication skills. We are a space for students to make friends and to work with others. Our final goal is the creation of a school play!
Community Club
Advisor: Ms. Polen
The community club is a student-led organization that finds volunteer opportunities in the area. Our goal is to create an opportunity for students to give back to their community while also developing crucial skills in communication and leadership. Our club will encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and make a positive impact on the world around them!
Game/Chess Club
Advisor: Mr. McDonald
This is an open social club available to 7th – 9th students. We play board games like chess, playing cards, D&D, etc. Our club meets every Thursday after school until 4:00.
Run Club
Advisor: Mr. Mabey
Run club provides students an opportunity to meet after school and go outside and move around. Runners, joggers and walkers are all welcome – the goal is to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and build community.
