Bio-Med Science Academy offers you a school day, a school year, a curriculum and a learning experience unlike anything in place at a comprehensive grade school or high school.
Our approach is that mastery happens when you start applying what you’ve learned to solve problems. It’s an approach that helps to turn what you learn into things you can use. That requires more than writing answers on a worksheet. It involves investigation, collaboration, critical thinking. It involves trial and error. It involves failure. It involves learning from failure, evaluating what went wrong and making adjustments before trying again.

Experience the “spark.”
It comes in the moments when you’re frustrated and confused and everything is a little chaotic. And then you work through it to find a moment of clarity or a really cool idea. It’s not just a point at which you find the answer. Often, it’s a point where you realize you know how to find the answer.
That’s real learning because you understand something in a way that you never did before. But it doesn’t happen without sustained effort. Any spark is the result of friction. Being excellent in anything takes that effort.

A grading system unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Bio-Med’s Mastery grading system is based on growth and development, not necessarily on percentages and points and letter grades. It’s an evaluation of each student, how are they challenged, how are they progressing and growing. Mastery grading is not “one size fits all.” It looks slightly different for every student.
The point is, you begin to recognize the things you need to do to achieve mastery. You begin to take ownership of your education. We are always here to provide help and resources in the journey, but how far you go is ultimately up to you.

Pathways… Where do you go from here?
As a STEM school, it is only natural that we structure our curriculum to provide pathways to careers in math and science. Specifically, we offer channels of education that lead to careers in:
- Medicine
- Healthcare and Health Science
- Information Technology
- Engineering
- Scientific Research and Development
- Education
- Agriculture and the Environment
In addition, Bio-Med provides pathways for Career and Technical Education that prepares students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers. A STEM-based education can give you the 21st century skills needed in many different industries including automotive technology, construction, plumbing or electrical contracting, agriculture, culinary arts, fashion design, filmmaking, forestry, engineering, healthcare, robotics or veterinary medicine.
And, while there are curriculum Pathways for students who want to explore a career in science and technology, many of our students go on to pursue fields in the humanities or the arts.
